Summary:
The intent of this job description is to provide a summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed in this job.
Incumbents may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
The Billing Assistant will focus on producing high quality work with the highest level of customer care in patient interactions.
The medical billing staff member is responsible for assisting with revenue cycle functions.
Works under the Payment Posting reconciliation specialist as needed.
Apply knowledge of billing requirements for various payers and patients.
The candidate will work claims and denial queues as assigned.
Knows or learns basic application of procedure, diagnoses codes, modifiers.
The candidate will follow up on open Account Receivables claim balances.
These functions include calls to payors or patients, website research, refiling claims, preparing appeals.
The Revenue Cycle billing assistant may be assigned to the patient customer service unit as needed and will ensure a positive patient experience by helping patients understand their bill.
Has knowledge of insurance billing rules, insurance payments (EOB's), patient co-pays and deductibles.
Other duties as assigned.

Provide back-up for patient calls.
Follow-up on open account receivable claim balances, these may include calls to payors, patients, website research, refilling claims, and preparing appeals.
Ensure a positive patient experience by helping patients understand their bill.
Work follow-up queues and assist Follow-up specialists.
Insurance and patient payment posting.
Assist the Reconciliation Specialist.
Required education and
Experience:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.
Minimum Education (or substitute experience) required:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Minimum Experience Required:
Billing Certificate or minimum 1 year billing experience.
To be considered, you must have prior medical billing experience OR medical billing education/training.
Minimum Knowledge and Skills Required:
Has knowledge of insurance billing rules, insurance payments (EOB's), patient co-pays and deductibles.
Knowledge of billing requirements for various payers and patients, as well as able to work claims and denial queues as assigned and knows or can learn the basic application procedure, diagnoses codes and modifiers.
Knowledge of Epic or Athena EMR software is a plus.
Basic understanding of medical billing, HIPPA, and PHI Compliance.
Basic understanding of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes, as well as appropriate modifier usage.
Familiar with billing functions namely, payment posting, and AR resolution, insurances, including Medicare, Tricare, and commercial payers.
Ability to navigate and accurately input within the Practice Management System.
Salary range:

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
